Read a candidate CV with AI

One click reads an uploaded CV and fills in skills, experience, past roles and a pitch summary - only the fields you have left empty.

Updated 27 July 2026

Once a candidate has a CV uploaded, Jeanus can read it for you: one click and the AI fills in their skills, experience, past roles and a short pitch summary - so you are not retyping a CV into fields by hand.

Where the button is

Open a candidate at /candidates/<id> and find the CV read by AI card. If a CV is uploaded, you will see a ✦ Read CV with AI button. If not, upload one first - the card prompts you to.

What it does

  1. Click ✦ Read CV with AI. The button shows Reading… while it works.
  2. The AI reads the uploaded PDF and extracts the candidate's details.
  3. It writes back only the fields you have left empty - it never overwrites what you have already entered. Skills are the exception: new ones are merged in with what is there.
  4. You get a confirmation showing how many empty fields were filled, plus a summary, past roles, and any certifications, education and languages found.

What it fills in

Where the CV shows them: current role and company, years of experience, sector, seniority, engagement type (perm / contract), IR35 status, desired day rate or salary, LinkedIn URL, and skills. It also writes a 60-120 word pitch summary for a hiring manager, and stores past roles, education, certs and languages on the record.

PDF only, and it won't invent facts. The reader supports PDF CVs - if it is another format, ask the candidate to re-upload as PDF. The AI leaves a field blank rather than guess, so anything it could not find on the CV stays empty for you to fill.

Re-reading

After the first read the button becomes ✦ Re-read CV. Re-reading refreshes the summary and extraction from the current CV. It still only fills empty flat fields, so your edits are safe.
